Phakalane English Medium School (PEMS) is an exceptional education experience for each and every learner. We ensure that the learning needs of learners are met through a broad and balanced curriculum. There are currently classes from pre-primary to standard seven.

At PEMS we have a child-centred approach with an endeavour to build a holistic learner.

Our preparatory programme is one of a kind. Our pre-primary and lower primary learners have an intensive and extensive THRASS programme. THRASS is a language programme specially designed to deal with the phonics essentials of comprehensive reading and good literature. The programme further includes handwriting, reading, spelling and the development of literacy. The preparatory programme encompasses numeracy literacy, and fine and gross motor skill development. Our learners further develop social and emotional skills, setting them up for the rest of their educational lives.

Benefits of Our Primary Curriculum

One of the biggest benefits of our primary curriculum is that it provides a wide range of subjects and is a solid foundation for secondary education, transitioning our learners to cope with the demands of secondary school. The curriculum allows for fostering of intellectual and creativity growth embracing learners’ differences to develop a well-rounded global citizen. Our learners complete the curriculum ready to compete, conquer and prosper in any global arena.

Our primary school learners go on to write the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE). PSLE is an external examination from the Botswana Examination Council. The examination is an excellent indicator in assessing how much a primary school pupil has learnt through his/her schooling years.

Learners access and experience a large range of subjects, all of which are delivered through a skills based curriculum providing them with a firm  academic foundation for their studies, as they move up through the school.

Curriculum Philosophy

Phakalane Secondary School’s main objectives are to provide a fulfilled and secure environment for the learners. Our curriculum encompasses the intellectual, physical, moral, emotional and social needs and development of learners.

Curriculum

International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGSCE) is one of the most sought after international qualifications for learners at secondary school level offered by Cambridge Assessment International Education. The international qualifications are recognised by the world’s best universities and employers, giving learners a wide range of options in their continued education and future careers. PEMS programs are designed to equip learners with effective communication skills, instill self confidence and the training to become proficient in varied skills required in today’s global village.

IGCSE encourages learners to develop a global perspective and promotes a broad knowledge base and fosters open minded thinking through its specialized approaches to learning & teaching. Phakalane Pre & Primary Campuses

There are currently classes from Pre-primary up to standard seven. Our Pre primary programme is the only one of its kind. It is manned by well experienced teachers with a thorough knowledge of the developing mind.

An intensive THRASS language program is part of the curriculum, preparing the young minds for the challenges of the primary school years of the information era. Learners will acquire Handwriting, Reading and Spelling Skills through the THRASS program which is inline with the international English Curriculum. The hand writting, Reading and Spelling aspects of the program are designed to raise and support creative writing, development of literacy, and advanced reading.

Our program is developmentally appropriate. It supports the unique development of learners by providing for each learner’s individual needs and interest.
